Prosecution allowances

Scope and Content

Allowances to prosecutors of criminals for loss of time and trouble incurred were first authorised by 25 Geo.11, c.36 (1751/2), were subject to the discretion of the court, and were payable by the county. Later acts added to the number of cases in which such relief might be claimed. An Act of 7 Geo. IV, c.64 (1826) required Quarter Sessions to publish a table of prosecution allowances, after being approved by a justice of assize. The vouchers give names of those involved in the prosecution, allowances paid, names of defendants and the charges on which they appear
