The fees of justices' clerks were first regulated by the Act 26 Geo.11, c.14 (1753) whereby quarter sessions was to make out a table of fees to be approved and signed by two justices of assize. The Act 40 & 41 Viet., c.43 (1877) allowed clerks to be paid salaries in lieu of fees.
