Estate Records: Woodroffe estates

Scope and Content

This and the numbered sections E9-11 concern the running of estates for others either as trustee or executor and are thus separate from the Gascoigne's lands.

By the marriage of George Gascoigne (D12a) to Mary Woodroffe of Hope, co. Derby on 13 April 165, the Gascoignes inherited an interest in, though no title to, the property of her family. Sir Edward Gascoigne (D15), her grandson, seems to have intended to claim the estate; in any case he collected and annotated a large collection of their papers (for the deeds see WYL115/D and for his history of Woodroffe. see WYL115/E) It is presumably in this connection that the group of papers have accrued, which include wills, bonds, rentals, correspondence and other estate papers.
