Photograph album and pamphlet relating to Staythorpe Power Station; 1944-1964

The collection consists of :

Album of 50 mounted photographs, bound in parchment with gold tooling presented to C.R. King, general manager of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Electric Power Company at the time when the design for Staythorpe 'A' was conceived. The images cover the period from the initial planning of the power station, through its construction to its eventual operation. They include photographs of the site and of the interior of the power station; 1944-1950. (MS 835/1)

Pamphlet concerning the Staythorpe site produced by the Central Electricity Generating Board; explains the construction of the Staythorpe site and the need for two power stations; describes the method of producing electricity from coal; presents facts and figures on the consumption and output of the Staythorpe site; Aug. 1964. (MS 835/2)

Staythorpe 'A' power station was a coal fired power station built in 1946-1950 with a generating capacity of 112 megawatts. It was constructed on the side of the River Trent between Southwell and Newark on the Nottingham to Lincoln railway line for the Central Electricity Generating Board. Another power station, Staythorpe 'B' was built alongside it in 1962.

Staythorpe 'A' was closed on 31 October 1983 and later demolished. In 2010 the site was re-used for the construction of Staythorpe 'C' a new gas-fired power station.

The collection consists of two items which have been arranged chronologically.
