Administrative / Biographical History
The United Pattern Makers' Association was founded in 1872 in the north eastof England and expanded rapidly by incorporating local societies in Glasgow,Leeds, London and elsewhere. In response to technical changes whichundermined its skilled craft base the UPA widened its scope and adopted thename Association of Pattern Makers and Allied Craftsmen in 1969. In 1984 APACtransferred engagements to the Technical, Administrative and SupervisorySection which in 1988 formed Manufacturing, Science and Finance byamalgamating with the Association of Scientific, Technical and ManagerialStaffs.
