Letter from Girault to Hugo

Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Hugo in which Girault regrets that he cannot review Le Magicien in the Gazette de France because it would not suit that prim journal and because the Comte de Beauregard ignores all modern novelists, however, he could review the forthcoming historical work by Granier de Cassagnac. The writer welcomes Hugo's successful suit against the Comédie Française as a lesson to Vedel and other directors hostile to the young modern dramatists. He closes with the complaint that he has still not heard about his salary from the Ministre de l'Instruction publique.
