Mme Robert thanks Hugo for his efforts to save her son and sends him her New Year wishes for 1873. Mme Zélie Robert's letter of 21 January 1873 is followed by an autograph letter to Victor Hugo from her husband, E. Robert, who adds his thanks to his wife's speaks of Swiss criticism of French policy, and asks for a copy of a poem which he had been told Hugo had written on the death of Napoleon III.
