Scope and Content

Volume described as "Chronological tables of the Owens College with an alphabetical index of events". The volume includes references to the attempt to set up a University at Manchester in 1640, and a pamphlet by Thomas Barnes of 1786 supporting an academy at Manchester (the Manchester New College was the indirect outcome of this initiative), and the campaign for a University of 1836/7. There is also a chronology of events at Owens in1880, although this has no obvious connection with other contents of the book. The volume is otherwise empty, although it appears there was an intention to provide a digest of events relating to the College.
