Journal of James Turner, May - July 1877, describing his visit to the Tokelau, Ellice [Tuvalu] and Gilbert Islands [Kiribati] in the John Williams. The islands visited include Fakaofo, Atafu, Nukulaelae, Funafuti, Vaitupu, Nukufetau, Niutao, Arorae, Nunukau, Peru [Beru], Onatoa, Tamana, Nanomea, Nanumanga and Nui. For each of these islands he gives details of the number of church members, the size of the population, the number of people taken by the slavers and descriptions of the heathen customs.
