Scope and Content

Journal of John Hutchin, August - September 1896, describing his visit in the John Williams to the mission stations of the Cook Islands mission. He travelled from Rarotonga to Mangaia, Aitutaki, Atiu, Mitiaro, Mauke, Penhryns (Tongareva), Manihiki, Rakaanga and Bukabuka. At each station he visited the native teachers, examined the schools and held meetings with the chiefs, giving advice about various legal matters in relation to those islands that had been annexed by Great Britain.
