Scope and Content

Groups include: Guests seated for Centenary Feasts; [Sunday School] Scholars and others who had rendered scene from [Old Testament], Nebuchadnezzar and the three young Jews; Sunday School scholars and others who had enacted scenes from early days of Christianity in Rarotonga, including John Williams, Papeiha and chiefs, all played by direct descendents; Calisthenics display by Sunday School children. People include: Resident Commissioner of Rarotonga addressing meeting in Avarua; Rev [Henry] Bond James; Sidney Hutchins; [Rev W N ]Gunson, LMS deputation from Sydney. Events include: Centenary Celebrations, Rarotonga including feast at Arorangi; open air meeting at Ngatangiia, showing coconut palms bent in hurricane [see Chronicle May 1924 p.115 for article by Sidney Hutchins; Meeting in Avarua. Places or buildings include: Matavera, Avarua, Arorangi and Ngatangiaa, Rarotonga. Also includes: table decorations for feasts, including Tivaevaes, native bedspreads, used as sun shades; pulpit used by Papeiha in his early preaching in Rarotonga, 1823.
