People include: Thakombau, ex-king of Fiji c.1874 [ Ratu Seru Cakobau, Vuniivalu of Bau, Tui Viti, chief of Fiji 1871 - 1874, b.1817 d.1883, accepted Christinaity 1854 and ended cannibalism, instrumental in ceding Fiji to Britain in 1874]; studio portraits of Fijian man, woman and child. Activities include: preparing pig for wedding feast [of the Chief]; spearing fish; climbing coconut palm [marked up as cover of News from Afar ; boating on river.
