Henry Crisp Papers

Henry Crisp's journal of his voyage to India in 1827; letter from Henry Crisp, dated May 20th 1829 conveying the news of the death of his wife in childbirth and a letter, dated 29th October 1831 announcing the death of Henry Crisp and the arrangements made for his two young children.

Henry Crisp was born in Hertford, England in 1803. He studied at the Missionary College at Hoxton and was ordained in in 1827. He was accepted for service in India by the London Missionary Society, married Eliza Steffe Crisp in the same year and arrived in Madras, India in October 1827. He was posted to Salem in what is now Tamil Nadu. Eliza Crisp died in May 1829 aged 24. Henry Crisp died in October 1831.
