Scope and Content

Journal of George Pratt, July - August 1872, describing his voyage ('a yachting excursion') to the out stations of the Samoan mission. He was accompanied by Thomas Powell, Samuel Whitmee, M Henry and W Murray - to whose accounts he refers the reader for 'botanical, mythological, geological and other details'. Islands they visited were Atafu and Fakaofo in the Tokelau group, Nukalaelae, Funafuti, Vaitupu, Nukufetau, Niutao and Nui in the Ellice group and Arorae, Nukunau, Peru [Beru], Onoatoa [Onotoa], Tamana and Nanomanga in the Gilbert group [Kiribti]. Journal has been edited in red pencil.
