Registers of Missionaries

Scope and Content

Original registers of missionaries maintained by the London Missionary Society, and later the Council for World Mission. Volumes contain annotated entries for each individual missionary (given a unique missionary number), including biographical information and details of missionary service overseas, periods of furlough and retirement. The first volume of the Register, London Missionary Society. A Register of Missionaries, Deputations, etc. from 1796 to 1923, was published in 1923. All volumes are indexed.

Arrangement

Registers are organised by the date of appointment.

Conditions Governing Access

Registers contain personal data regarding named individuals, and are closed for 80 years from the date of the final entry in each volume.

NOTE: Where the date of death can be verified for individuals in closed volumes, applications for access to information on that individual may be made in writing to the Archivist.
