Scope and Content

Journal of William Wyatt Gill and John Jones September - November 1862, recording their voyage in the John Williams from Sydney to Norfolk Island, then on to the New Hebrides [Vanuatu] and Loyalty Islands [New Caledonia. Calling at Mare, Aneiteum [Anatom], Erromanga [Erromango], Lifu, Api [Epi], Ambryon [Ambrym], Malieolo and Spiritu Santo to visit the native teachers and missionaries. Describes at length the activities of the Roman Catholic priests on these islands, also records the deaths of the native teachers at Santo, and the wedding of Rev James Sleigh to Miss Mary Pratt.
