Requests copies of Livingstone's reports; forwards a "daguerrotype likeness of the Doctor" to Mrs Livingstone by the HMS Linnet, bound for England.

Administrative / Biographical History

Edmund Gabriel (1821-1862); entered Royal Navy in 1842; in 1845 appointed arbitrator in the mixed British and Portuguese Commission esyablished at Luanda under the Lisbon treaty (July 1842) for the suppression of the slave trade; acting Commissioner 1856; full Commissioner 1859. Gabriel met Livingstone while he was in Loanda [Luanda] and recovering from serious illness. (Source : Schapera)
