82a. Sir Thomas Maclear, Cape Town, to William Thompson [Cape Town]

Scope and Content

Regarding a map of Livingstone's - Maclear discusses a tracing taken from Livingstone's map, that Thompson may have it copied as he sees fit - "It is the only one at the Cape I believe, therefore pray take care of it for me. There are names of localities upon it of interest to preserve"; wishes to contact Mr Moffat [Robert Moffat] to ascertain "if an occulation could be observed there [at Latakoo] by him", and whether he has the means (via a telescope) - the purpose of this that they have "no data for detecting where the break occurs between the true and false longitudes" - thought to be somewhere between the latitudes of Latakoo and Lake Ngami.
