Scope and Content

Journal of William Wilson August - October 1886, describing his voyage in the John Williams to the out stations of the Samoan mission. Islands which he visited included Olsenga [Olosega], Fakaofo and Atafu in the Tokelau group, Nukulaelae, Fanufuti, Nukufetau, Nui and Nuitao in the Ellice group [Tuvalu], and Arorae, Nukunau, Peru [Beru], Onotoa and Tamana in the Gilbert group [Kiribati]. At each station he received reports from the native teachers and visited the churches and schools. At Fakaofo he settled a dispute with the Roman Catholics about ownership of some land. He also recorded statistics of the mission stations.
