Scope and Content
The collection of oil portraits of missionaries and former directors of the London Missionary Society originally formed part of the LMS Museum collection, and many were on display in the former LMS headquarters at various periods in their history. Although some portraits were subsequently given to museums around the world, including the Moffat Museum, Kuruman, South Africa, many remained together in the custody of the Council for World Mission until 2013-2014, when the collection was split and paintings donated to the National Maritime Museum, and the Dr Williams Library, London. This followed the relocation of the Council for World Mission to Singapore in 2012, and the vacation of their former British headquarters at Ipalo House, London. For further information on the current location of individual paintings, please contact the CWM Archivist, SOAS Library.
