This collection consists of copies of a small portion of photographs of the South Tawton Photographic Archive, with the originals dating from the late 19th century to the 1980s. The photographs represented in this collection are grouped into three sections as follows: Group A: social groups; Group B: occupational groups; and Group C: landscape. Places featured include South Zeal, Shelly, South Tawton, as well as photographs of community activities such as carnivals and fairs, as well as quarrying and agricultural work.

Administrative / Biographical History
This collection was compiled in the early 1980s as a part of the South Tawton Photographic Archive by Margaret Tucker, Marilyn Tucker (Northmore) and Paul Wilson, all of the South Tawton Local History Group. Over 400 original photographs were copied during this project, dating from the late 19th century to the 1980s. Most of the photographs were borrowed from individuals living on and around Dartmoor. Copies were later made and donated to the University.
The original arrangement of the collection as imposed by the South Tawton Photographic Archive has been retained.
