Scope and Content

Comprises index cards compiled by Michael Bourne for the Brock Book Collection, three A4 exhibition panels and typescript papers listing books illustrated by C. E. Brock and H. M. Brock. There are loose leaves from books and book jackets with illustrations by C. E. Brock and H. M. Brock. Includes a poster for 'The Sorcerer' by D'Oyly Carte Opera Company by H. M. Brock.

There is a related book collection of c.300 volumes.

Administrative / Biographical History

Charles Edmund Brock (1870-1936) was an English artist and book illustrator. He provided illustrations for many Victorian novels including works by Charles Dickens and William Makepeace Thackeray. His younger brother, Henry Matthew Brock (1875-1960) also worked in book illustration. He contributed many drawings to Victorian and Edwardian novels including works by Louisa May Alcott and Hans Christian Andersen
