Scope and Content

Administrative and biographical history: John Wynne Griffith of Garn, Denbighshire, and Jane his wife had thirteen children, nine of whom survived to adulthood. Of those only Edward Humphrey Griffith (1792-1872) and George Griffith lived to any great age. Edward had inherited lands in Denbighshire and Merionethshire through his elder brother, Robert. He chose to live at Greenbank, Henllan, Denbighshire, where he built a house to his own plan, renaming it Plasnewydd. In 1834 he married Maria, daughter of Philip Parry of Ty Newydd and Castle House, Denbigh, by whom he had two children. He served as treasurer of Denbighshire for over 50 years. Edward Wynne Griffith (1837-1917), Edward Humphrey's son, married Emma Frances Marianne Park (d. 1931), daughter of William Waldegrave Park and Elizabeth, daughter of Edmund Yates. Edward purchased an estate at Tiresford near Tarporley, Cheshire, where he resided during the latter part of his life. His son, Edward Waldegrave Griffith, was executor of his aunt, Clementina Park-Yates (d. 1935) of Ince Hall, Cheshire.

Scope and content: Deeds and leases for properties in Denbighshire, 1694-1888, and Merionethshire, 1668-1911; miscellaneous papers relating to Plasnewydd estate, Henllan, and Tiresford estate, Tarporley, Cheshire; marriage settlements and wills, 1785-1925; family correspondence, 1813-1935; papers relating to hunting, racing, shooting and fishing, 1834-1934; and Ince Hall estate papers including deeds 1706-1916; estate records, 1722-1958, including rentals, accounts and vouchers, correspondence, legal papers, and plans; papers relating to Ince village affairs; Park and Yates family papers, 1810-1933, including settlements and wills, and financial and legal papers.

Arranged chronologically into: Deeds; Plasnewydd and Tiresford estates; Griffith family papers; Ince estate; and Park and Yates family papers.
