Administrative / Biographical History
The greater part of the library consists of books bequeathed by the Reverend Henry Halstead (1641-1728), a member of a prominent local family and a former pupil of the school. Reverend Edmund Townley, Rector of Slaidburn, augmented the library.
Although the collection contains works on history, politics, medicine, and the law, as well as works in Latin and Greek, the major part consists of works on religion, and especially the defence of Anglicanism against Catholicism.

Each item is numbered and listed in a manual catalogue.
