Scope and Content

From an unknown correspondent [possibly John Fletcher] , addressed to ‘Honoured and dear Lady’. They have received her kind letter. Spiritual matters are discussed. It was perhaps the workings of providence which blocked her visit to them this summer as a bad [unreadable word] has carried off several people around here. Two of their neighbours died of it last week and his wife who visited them, was so struck that ‘I was obliged to offer her up to God…’ He hopes that the worst is over now although she remains very weak. They appear to be surrounded by dying people at present. Spiritual matters are discussed.
