Scope and Content

From Forest House, Leytonstone, Essex, to Madeley, Shropshire. It is with much sorrow that he has to inform Mary of the death of their brother [Samuel]. He passed away at about eleven yesterday morning. It was a peaceful end and he does not appear to have suffered much pain since the water was drawn off. His decline was gradual.

Their sister-in-law [Eleanor] is as well as can reasonably be expected. She has been resigned to it for some time and her main worry was that Samuel would be in pain. God however allowed him to escape that affliction.

William will take care of Mary's financial business and will send her dividends in a few days.
