Scope and Content

From Charles Bosanquet at Forest House, Leytonstone [postmark], Essex, to [his aunt Mary] Fletcher at Madeley, Shropshire. His mother [Eleanor's] letter of yesterday [MAM/FL/1/7/16] would have prepared her for the sad news which he must now impart - 'your good & kind brother [Charles Bosanquet's uncle William Bosanquet] drew his last breath about 10'o clock last night without pain and without a struggle'. He had been sinking for some weeks and indeed since 14th March last he had been gradually declining. Bosanquet is anxious to catch this post and must therefore postpone further particulars.

His mother's health has been shaken by this event 'but she is not more agitated this morning than might be expected by the loss.'
