From Richard Williams to Mary Fletcher. He is sending this note to reassure Fletcher that her letter has been safely delivered - he did not trust a messenger boy, but sent a man directly, as her note had specified that no time was to be lost. The man found Mr [Benjamin] Longmore at his home just as he was about to dine and gave it to him in his own hand. Longmore went into the parlour, read it and came out to tell the man that there was no answer.
Williams has been 'trying to think much of our great friend's [Mary Fletcher] two last Monday discourses - what a favour oh my God to the parish of Madeley. See how remarkably the Lord answered Mrs Fletcher's prayer with respect to the weather - we ought to be as ready to ask her to return thanks for such a change - praise God my friend that he honours you with his presence and blesses the people when you engage on his work. It did my heart good to hear of the people at Coalport on Sunday night - may the Lord be pleased to give you that degree of bodily strength needful to go forward in his work'
On the reverse of this letter is a reply from Mary Fletcher to Richard Williams
Fletcher was pleased to receive Williams' note as he has been often on their minds. At last night's intercession, they prayed for Williams and his family according to his request and shall continue to do so. His situation is full of trials, but he should be reminded of that word "the eyes of the Lord run to and fro through the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of those whose hearts are upright toward him" (2 Chronicles 16:9).
When he is in trouble and temptation, he should remember 3 things:
1. Nothing can happen except by the will of God.
2. 'Accept that invitation of your Lord - "O come unto me all that all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
3. 'Encourage yourself by reflecting on those words - "He hath borne all our sins in his own body on the tree" (1 Peter 2: 24) and also "He that believeth on me shall have everlasting life ..." (John 6: 47).
Spiritual matters are discussed in detail.
