Scope and Content

From Bishopsgate Street, London, to Madeley, Shropshire. William has just sent Mary's [insurance] policy with the 'mark' on the coach. The 'mark' should be fixed to the front of Mary's house.

He does not anticipate that the troubles [Revolution] in France will prevent Mary receiving the money from Switzerland - it appears that the disturbances there are over. He thinks that the money was to be paid to Paul Gaussen at Geneva, who was then to write what the amount was then to be paid to Mary. William has not yet heard anything but will make enquiries.

Mary's French annuity is now in an awkward situation as they have decided to reduce it by one fifth. William thinks that the deficit will be paid but not until after the political situation there has settled.

[Their sister Anna-Maria] Gaussen has not told William of her affairs as completely as Mary, but she did dine with him yesterday and clarified a great deal.
