Letter

Scope and Content

From Bishopsgate Street, London, to Madeley, Shropshire. He received a letter from Mary last week, which he only glanced over and has discovered just now that it has been thrown away by accident. He thinks that Mary wrote that Mr Hindmarsh was to call [on William] for his bill. William has not yet seen him and when he does, he will make enquiries as to where matters stand with regard to what has been paid and what is still owed. Financial matters are further discussed in detail with some mention made of subscriptions [to John Fletcher's book]. Reference is made to Mr Gaussen.

William has received the trunk containing books from Switzerland and shall keep them for Mary. It was left to be sent to Bristol care of Mr Ireland for forwarding to Mary, and William has therefore instructed it to be left in his warehouse.

He trusts that as Mary lacks companionship in the house [following the death of John Fletcher], she is associating with 'some good sort of people among your neighbours' and sme must not remain on her own too much.
