Note

  • Sarah Ryan (1724-68) was born of poor parents. At the age of seventeen she was converted by the preaching of George Whitefield and subsequently joined the Foundry Society in London. She lived for a time with her fellow Methodists Sarah Crosby and Mary Clark before John Wesley appointed her his housekeeper in Bristol in 1757. From 1762 until her death, she was a close companion of Mary Bosanquet-Fletcher. Source: Encyclopedia of World Methodism (1974)
