EDWARD HUBBARD PAPERS

Scope and Content

Notes on buildings, correspondence, photographs, postcards, newspaper cuttings, copy articles and a small collection of guidebooks.

Before his death, Edward Hubbard expressed a wish that the notes and papers he had accumulated while writing the Clwyd volume of 'Buildings of wales' should be deposited in the Clwyd Record Office. These were transferred to Hawarden by his father, Mr Jack Hubbard, shortly after his death in June 1989. They comprise notes on buildings, some of which were not finally included in the book, correspondence, a few photographs, postcards, newspaper cuttings, copy articles and a small collection of guidebooks. Some of the notes include copy sketches and drawings to help the author identify the houses. These, together with one or two unexplained gaps in his numbering, have been retained. All the notes were numbered meticulously by Mr Hubbard himself. A few items of correspondence and illustrations which he had retained in the box files of guidebooks have been added to the notes on the buildings concerned.

Papers originally with reference D/DM/1045 have been assigned to this collection.
