The main collection is comprised predominantly of several series of in and out letters, covering principally the second half of the nineteenth century. There is correspondence with Jardine, Matheson & Co. in Hong Kong, Matheson & Co. in London, Remington & Co. and other Bombay firms, and with various members of the Skinner and Keswick families. There are, however, few accounting papers. The main collection is supplemented by a second deposit of papers, dating mainly from the twentieth century, relating principally to the activities of Assam Trading (Holding) Ltd, the Makum (Assam) Tea Co. Ltd, and to tea gardens in Assam, 1892-1973.
