Records of the Clerical and Administrative Workers' Union (Aberdeen Branch)

Minutes, 1943 - 1962

The union was formed in 1941 upon amalgamation of the National Union of Clerks (est. 1890) and the Association of Women Clerks and Secretaries. It adopted a new name - the Association of Professional, Executive, Clerical and Computer Staff - in 1972. The Aberdeen Branch of the union was formed in May 1943.

Buckley, Trade Unionism in Aberdeen 1870 - 1900 (Edinburgh and London: Oliver and Boyd, 1955). Arthur Marsh and Victoria Ryan, Historical Directory of Trade Unions, 4 vols (Aldershot: Gower, 1980 - 1984) also contains useful information about the development of individual unions, at both the national and local level.
