From 1st Jan – 22nd March, Alec Guinness was in Madrid and Segovia the filming of The Fall of the Roman Empire (1964). Still in tax exile, he then travelled to San Sebastian, Ascain, Bagneres-De-Bigurre, Lourdes, Beynac et Cezenac, Amboise, Loue, Cherbourg and then finally returned home to Petersfield via Bournemouth on 8th April. He remained in Petersfield/London until 25th August, with a few short trips within the UK. On 25 August in Newcastle began rehearsals for a return to stage in Exit the King by Eugene Ionesco, then to Edinburgh until 8th September when he returned to Petersfield/London. He remained there until 7 November when he took the boat to New York to begin rehearsals for Dylan by Sidney Michael, until 11th December when he went to New Haven until 21st December, and then back to New York and on to Toronto 23rd – 31st December.
