During this year Alec Guinness travelled extensively outside of the UK, for tax reasons. He travelled between London and Seville Jan-Mar, filming interiors of Lawrence of Arabia (1962). Then filming moved to Almeria on south coast of Spain, which finished 6 Apr. He went to Barcelona and St Jean Cap Ferrat, S. France. Then he took a yacht trip, not returning to England for tax reasons. The cruise ended in Catania, from where Alec and Merula travelled on to Rome. On the 11 June he flew to Boston to recieve an honorary doctorate. Then he travelled to Dublin, then Berlin, to receive David O. Selznick Gold Laurel Award then back to Paris. And then retuned back to Dublin. He spent a four day retreat at Subacio, Italy, then went on to Rome. He was in Athens on 3 September and then boarded the Clonsilla yacht again which took him to Malta.
