Messrs Lewis and James, solicitors, of Narberth, Pembrokseshire, was set up in 1895 by Thomas Lewis. Walter James joined the firm in 1902, and it became Lewis and James. The partners acted as clerks to many local bodies, including the Court of Petty Sessions, Narberth Cattle Market and Fairs Co. Ltd, Narberth and District Development Association, Narberth Gas Company and the Independent Order of Rechabites, Narberth branch; W. D. Lewis acted as Liberal Party agent in the 1890s. In 1984, the firm merged with Ungoed-Thomas and King, of Carmarthen and Tenby. The firm is now part of Messrs Lowless and Lowless of Pembroke Dock. They accumulated papers derived from the activities of the firm, and include earlier papers relating to the interests of its clients. Edward Howell James, of Llanfyrnach, father of Walter Robert James, who started the firm, was born in 1844.
