Administrative / Biographical History

The Yorkshire Glass Bottle Makers' United Trade Protection Society may date as far back as 1827. In 1920 it amalgamated with the National Glass Bottle Makers' Society of Great Britain and Ireland, which had seceded from the National Flint Glass Makers' Sick and Friendly Society of Great Britain and Ireland in 1902, to form the National Glass Workers' Trade Protection Association. The association joined the Transport and General Workers' Union in 1940.

The National Flint Glass Makers' Sick and Friendly Society of Great Britain and Ireland went on to amalgamate with the National Union of Glass Cutters and Decorators in 1948 to form the National Union of Flint Glass Workers.

As the Northern Glass Workers' Employees' Association, the North of England Glass Bottle Makers' Society transferred engagements to the Sign and Display Trades Union in 1949.
