Administrative / Biographical History
The National Union of Dock Labourers was founded in 1889. It was renamed the National Union of Dock Labourers and Riverside Workers between 1914 and 1917 and the National Union of Dock, Riverside and General Workers between 1917 and 1919. It was one of the unions which initiated the formation of the Transport and General Workers' Union in 1922, but its members did not vote for amalgamation immediately and it did not join the amalgamation until later in the year.
