Sir W.J. (William James) Ashley (1860-1927), economist, was former professor of economic history at Harvard University, professor of political economy at the University of Toronto and fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford. He was a member of the 1918 Working Class Cost of Living Committee in the UK.
