Verse prayer to God as creator and source of reason, for inspiration, strength and comfort, translated from Boethius, Consolation of Philosophy, III.9, by Alexander Pope; together with bifolium letter from Charles Bertie to Sir William Trumbull, 19 February 1703, on the inner pages of which are Trumbull's own verse translation of the same passage from Boethius, and an adaptation by him of lines 990-99, 1009-11 of Dryden's translation of Virgil, Aeneid, VI, asking for God's help in overcoming the corruption and baseness of human life
