Scope and Content

'Some remarks upon Bishop [Gilbert] Burnet's History of His Own Times', 40 folios. The volume includes the following: (fo. i) quotation from Cicero, De oratore; (fo. ii) dedication 'To the right honourable James Earl of Derby, Lord of Man and the Isles'; (fo. iii) prefatory letter to the Earl of Derby; (fo. iv) title; (fo. v) dedicatory letter to Dorothy, Countess of Burlington; (fo. 1) text; (fo. 26) postscript addressed to the same countess. Fo. 29 and most of the versos are blank.

In his dedication Shewin refers to the fact that he has waited upon Sir James, Earl of Derby. Further information about his background is not known
