[00:05:07] Education: School 5 until 14, then Grammar, then Swansea Uni. [00:06:18] Employment: 2 1/2 years unemployed in 1930s (1935-37) post Uni and Teacher training. [00:06:57] Employment: Wife nurse, and tutor nurse. [00:07:03] Education: 11+, if fail local school until 14. [00:08:01] Education: Father attended evening classes, 'O' level standard. [00:09:45] Employment: Was English teacher, Sec Mod then Comp, after return from Hereford & Swindon work. [00:11:31] Industry: Coal and Tin only local industries in 1920s, many tinplate works. [00:13:50] Leisure: 1928: 3 cinemas, 2 dancehalls: Ystalyfera social nexus. [00:16:20] Leisure: Sunday evening "monkey parades", post-chapel. [00:17:25] Society: Decline of chapel: locals had to work elsewhere. [00:19:06] Leisure: Church halls social nexus. [00:20:45] Employment: Professional classes: mainly teaching, diaspora. [00:21:50] Industry: Tin work seen as very hard. [00:24:40] Employment: Limited female opportunities - nursing, service, seamstresses. [00:26:19] Leisure: Few radios until 1930s, horrors of "Welsh Sundays". [00:28:40] Politics: Father socialist; area was ILP and Liberal.
