Case for the opinion of Mr Shadwell, on behalf of the Corporation of Aberavon, reciting a Lease for 99 years for £3 annual rent dated 7 Dec. 1818, between the Portreeve, Aldermen and Burgesses of the Borough of Avon to Samuel Fothergill Letsom of Ynysygerwn Works, Cadoxton-juxta-Neath, of a piece of land near Pwll y Glawse Mill, bordering on Craig y Tewgoed, in the parish of Michaelston-super-Avon, for the purpose of making a canal and road or tramway, with the power to make an aqueduct across the River Avon, and the lessee is to build a town hall in Aberavon on the site of a house and garden called Ty dan y Gollen. Samuel Lettsom was intending to build an ironworks nearby. He went bankrupt without building the town hall.. 1823
