Scope and Content

Harrison was supervised for his thesis by Alan Bowness at the Courtauld Institiute, London.

These records include correspondence between Harrison and artists, mostly discussing the 7&5 Society, Unit One, the Nicholsons and Mondrian. There are also photographs of paintings, notes which Harrison made from Winifred Nicholson's collection of letters and a chronology he wrote of Christopher Wood's life.

Arrangement

The Harrison's correspondence with Ben Nicholson began as part of his thesis research but later broadened into other issues and so has been arranged separately and can be found at TGA 839/2/19.

Photographs of paintings from this period have been included in the series at TGA 839/3/1/15 and TGA 839/3/1/16, as it is probable that Harrison obtained and used them for this purpose. Similarly the catalogue for the Ben Nicholson show may have been used in curating the 1969 Tate exhibition

The correspondence has been arranged alphabetically by the correspondent's surname (1-13), followed by materials probably collected by Harrison during his research (14-16), and then notes made by him (17-18).
