Created for the Board of Trade and successor authorities as part of a statutory requirement. As received, this collection consisted of tightly-rolled and soiled plans, many in very poor condition and, consequently difficult to open without damage. For this reason, the Board of Trade's own reference numbers were kept as access refence numbers, for convenience. A percentage of the most locally significant have been conserved, cleaned and flattened [particularly relating to the construction of piers].
