MESSUAGE AND PLOT OF MEADOW IN BLETCHINGDON CALLED ADDERSOME

Scope and Content

The history of Addersome meadow is

confusing. The deeds recorded here tell

the story of a messuage, with a meadow

called Addersome, from when it was sold

off by John Coghill. However, 10D below

also contains deeds about Addersome

meadow which seem unrelated to these

ones. It therefore seems that part of

the meadow was sold separately from the

rest at an unknown date, and only

reunited with the rest of the land in

1719.

To add to the confusion concerning the

history of this field, Sm. I-V show that

Sir John Lenthall sold some other lands

at Adderson in the 1620s, partly to the

Coles family, partly to the Silverside

family. The documents in this collection

show that this property led a separate

life from that described here in

E6/3/9D-10D, despite many close links

between them.
