LEASES ON MISCELLANEOUS PROPERTIES AT BLETCHINGDON & HAMPTON GAY

Scope and Content

A striking aspect of the contents of E6

is that very few leases for any of the

properties held by the Annesleys survive

(very probably individual leases were

destroyed when their terms had expired).

This is particularly true of the

Oxfordshire properties.

This section consists of such leases

as survive concerning individual

properties at Bletchingdon and Hampton

Gay which are only known by one or two

documents. Two things will become

apparent from this list: the first is

that almost all of the leases come from

either 1808 or the 1920s, as if they are

random samples which somehow escaped

destruction; the other is that the

properties are often described in not

much detail, so that it is not always

possible to identify them.
