Although there are very few documents
which mention the manor itself, some
conclusions can be reached about it. It
was owned by the Cornwallis family in
the late 16th century, and some time
after c.1610 passed into the hands of
the Cotton family, who owned it until it
was sold to Arthur Annesley (VIII) in
the mid 18th century.
This section also includes documents
about the settlement of parts of the
estate on members of the Cotton family.
NOTE: 2D-8D all concern properties which
at one time or another were part of the
estate owned first by the Cornwallis
family, and then the Cottons, and then
(it is presumed) the Annesleys.
