The papers of The Hope Street Association includes administrative papers and publicity material relating to projects, events, funding bids and regeneration which HOPES organised and was involved with, Meeting minutes, accounts, operational files and papers and publicity for various events hosted by HOPES and by other local businesses and organisations.

The Hope Street Association (HOPES) is a registered charity and aims to bring together and promote collaborative cultural, educational and religious projects, develop business partnerships, build a sense of community and regenerate the Hope Street Quarter of Liverpool City Centre.

HOPES was established by Hilary Burrage in 1994  as a result of a campaign by the Campaign to Promote the Arts on Merseyside (CAMPAM) to promote the importance of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Everyman Theatre as cultural icons of Liverpool at a time when they were under threat through lack of funding. The association received support from Willy Russell who served as president for the association and Adrian Henri who was a board member of the association and also participated in various HOPES events. Organisational support came from The University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University Business School, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO) and other local organisations and businesses.

In 1998  HOPES made a successful Hope Street Millennium Bid which enabled the Association to host cultural events and regenerate the area. In 2001  charitable status was awarded to HOPES and it continues to be an active organisation working in the area on regeneration and cultural events.

The papers of The Hope Street Association have been retained as organised and used by the Association as far as possible. Bundles have been arranged in chronological order and divided into sections as follows:

The collection is open to bona fide researchers. Please note that material relating to the administration of The Hope Street Association is currently closed access. Publicity material is open to access.
